Art & Culture:
Taliesin West – Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture is incredible to say the least, and has fostered a movement of innovative, environmentally conscious architects to make homes and buildings more efficient while artistically appealing. Wright’s winter home here in Scottsdale, home of Taliesin West, is the main campus of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and houses the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Tours are available year round of this breath taking campus, as well as classes for any age.

Located right off the 101, this museum has all types of educational events, concerts and workshops. Anyone who loves music will enjoy this destination. Herd Museum North – The Heard Museum downtown is an Arizona cultural icon dedicated to the Native American tribes who lived here for centuries. Depicting artifacts, historical timelines of events, and art, the museum is just a small sliver of the immense history of the people and the state of Arizona. The Heard has a presence now in North Scottsdale too with exhibits featuring modern Native America art and fashion. Both the downtown Heard and the North Scottsdale Heard are great places to go to get a taste of Native American culture and history.
iPic Theaters – Located in The Scottsdale Quarter, iPic is the movie theater of the 21st and is nothing short of amazing. The theater is the 1st class of the theater world, with lush seating that reclines, pillow & blankets to make yourself feel at home and a server who you can order food and beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) from. It truly is a top notch, luxurious, movie-going experience.
Kierland – Outdoor shopping is how we Arizonians do shopping best. Kierland, located on Scottsdale Road just south of Frank Lloyd Wright BLVD, is a great place to spend money eating and drinking at some of their world class restaurants. Zinc Bistro-French cuisine at its finest with a zinc bar and Parisian bistro seating. Or treat yourself to a new dress from Anthropology, or stroll over to Sur La Table to pick up a kitchen gadget. Francesca’s offers fun jewelry and accessories. During the holidays, Kierland has a great place for kids to take pictures with Santa Claus and summer time boasts shooting fountains, concerts and splash pads for the kids.
Scottsdale Quarter – Right across Scottsdale Road is the Scottsdale Quarter. A shopping mecca for the serious shopper. H & M, Apple Store, LuLuLemon, Nike, Le Creuset, Pandora, Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Armani…what more could one ask for! To top off your shopping, you can also dine once again in style at some progressive and brilliant restaurants, such as True Foods Kitchen Sam Fox and Dr. Andrew Weil’s healthy and amazing restaurant, Dominicks a steakhouse with a Scarface-gangster twist or Eddie V’s a contemporary lounge with innovative and tasty dishes. Scottsdale Quarter also has a splash pad open in the summers, great for the kiddos and mommies after a long hard day shopping!
Desert Ridge – Looking for a destination for the whole family to enjoy? Desert Ridge is the right mix of big box shops, restaurants, boutiques, and a movie theater too. With ample parking Desert Ridge is a traditional mall plus a strip mall on a serious dose of steroids! Located off of Tatum and the 101, this is a great place to go for 1 stop shopping or grabbing dinner and a movie. Much like the other outdoor malls, in the summer they offer a splash pad for the kiddies to stay cool and in the winter have a giant fire place to take the bite off the cold air. On the weekends, you will find live music by the fire.
Scottsdale Promenade – Another great shopping destination is the Scottsdale Promenade on the corner of Frank Lloyd Wright and Scottsdale Road. Nordstrom Rack, Michaels, World Market, DSW, Tilly’s and Old Navy are just a couple of the good shopping destinations. This shopping center also offers more day-to-day shopping with a convenient Trader Joe’s, Lowes, PetSmart and Office Max. But, as always, Scottsdale’s taste for culinary creativity rears its tasty head with The Capital Grille, Benihana and Maggiano’s. If your tastes buds are feeling a little less fancy but in need of full flavor you can hit up Someburros, In & Out Burger or Miracle Mile Deli.
Gambling – Are you a gambling man…or woman? Lucky for you North Scottsdale is home to not one but two casinos! Casino Arizona, located off the 101 and Indian Bend & Fort McDowell Casinos off the Bee Line Highway, east of Fountain Hills are both great places to get your dose of Las Vegas-gambling-adrenalin love without having to travel.
