Spring Hiking in North Scottsdale

desert wildflowers, sonoran desert, scottsdale, AZ

I started the day off right with a hike starting at the Gateway Trailhead in North Scottsdale.  The wildflowers are in bloom, and it is stunning. Purple, yellow and white flowers are carpeting the desert right now.  Give it another week or two and the palo verdes and cacti will also be in bloom.  This trail head gives hikers so many choices.  There is a trail for all abilities.  You can hike a mile or go deep into the McDowell Mountains for 20 + miles. My choice was heading towards Tom’s Thumb and detouring up to Inspiration View.

Gateway is located in the heart of DC Ranch, Silverleaf and Windgate Ranch neighborhoods.  These neighborhoods are pictured below. Exit off of Bell Road and the 101.  Head east on Bell and then head north on Thompson Peak Parkway.  Gateway is on the east side of the street about 1/4 mile from the intersection of Bell and Thompson Peak Parkway.
